Unseen Signifiers
Unseen Signifiers brings together ten faces, each carrying its own story and emotional charge. Within the series, guilt, tension, anger, shame, disorientation, surprise, longing, connection, playfulness, and vulnerability move through one another as different forces shaping a face from within. Each work holds several signals at once and gradually reveals new emotional layers. What emerges is a series in which emotion shifts, moves, and invites repeated reading.
The faces function as carriers of more than expression alone. They appear direct, vivid, and recognizable, yet they also hold something that opens only later. A smile may carry lightness while still holding a trace of shame or tension; an open gaze may evoke longing, connection, or surprise, while elsewhere a small asymmetry lets anger, guilt, or disorientation resonate. Emotional charge lives here in expression, in nuance, and in the tension between forms. The series shows how feelings appear in relation to one another, and how their meaning deepens once multiple layers become visible at the same time.
The signs and patterns in the backgrounds deepen that process. They act as traces of underlying responses, relational impressions, and learned movements of reaching, resisting, hiding, or searching. What first appears as a playful system of symbols gradually unfolds as a second register in which emotional information is stored. Inner experience becomes visible not only in the face, but also in the structure around it: in repetition, density, displacement, and rhythm.
The larger expressions and the subtler accents work together to guide the reading. Through closer attention, it becomes possible to sense how different emotions coexist and affect one another. In that way, a picture of inner complexity emerges, one in which the relationships among all these signs form the story.

Each of the ten works is held in a frame that resonates with the colors of the drawing it surrounds. Cherry, mint, bright blue, purple pink, green, orange, grey, deep red, black, aqua, blush pink, natural wood, purple, red, light blue, yellow, dark blue, olive, cappuccino, yellow-green, old rose, and granada move through the series in shifting combinations, giving every frame its own emotional register. The palette remains vivid and varied, yet always tied to the image it carries, so that frame and artwork read as one continuous field.
That chromatic richness echoes Unseen Signifiers itself. Just as each face holds several emotional traces at once, each frame gathers multiple tones into a single structure, allowing contrast, warmth, tension, and lightness to coexist. The result is a series in which color functions as an extension of expression: outwardly immediate, inwardly layered, and gradually more revealing the longer the eye remains with it.
