Mêlée of Discovery

Mêlée of Discovery explores an inner landscape shaped by sharp oppositions. Black and white appear here as modes of thinking, feeling, and moving: right and wrong, everything and nothing, attraction and rejection, freezing and reacting. The series makes visible how quickly the inner world can organize itself along such poles, and how powerfully each extreme can color the whole.

Within that field, experience is in constant motion. What feels fixed and clear in one moment can tilt in another direction the next. A mood intensifies, a judgment sharpens, an impulse presses forward. The works show how these oppositions move through thought, emotion, body, and action, and how the inner world repeatedly reorganizes itself around tension, movement, and turning points.

The title carries that dynamic within it. Mêlée refers to the tangle of impulses, feelings, and directions that all press for space at once. Discovery points to the process through which a pattern begins to emerge from within that multiplicity. Out of the accumulation of contrasts, a structure gradually becomes visible, one that was first felt only as unrest, intensity, or collision.

Black and white form a grammar of their own. Through their continual interplay, the series reveals how oppositions repeat, shift, and shape the inner world from within.

The frames echo that same dynamic. Oak provides structure, walnut surrounds the image with a warm band, and mahogany softly lifts the inner edge; the stain moves from darker to lighter tones from one work to the next. Mêlée of Discovery suggests a simple thought: you are the one who sees the coin turning, and who may gradually practice choosing what to lean toward.

    Materials: Black Marker

  • Each frame moves in alternating bands of black and white, almost like a wave or a strand of binary code. From the outermost layer inward, the wood shifts tone from one frame to the next, continuing through the passe-partout and into the color of the paper itself. The sequence creates a visual rhythm of opposition and reversal, as if each work carries the same structure in a different phase. In that way, the frames echo Mêlée of Discovery: a field in which contrasts keep changing places, and meaning emerges through their movement.
