Luminous Parallax

Luminous Parallax turns to moments when the image begins to shift. Certainty about what is being seen slips out of focus. Within that slight blurring, another kind of clarity emerges: not one fixed answer, but several possible readings appearing at once.

The series moves through a field where thoughts, memories, and present stimuli begin to overlap. A conviction that once felt absolute is joined by a second voice, a passing impression, a doubt that can no longer be pushed aside. Present and past, one’s own voice and the internalized voice of others, respond to each other within the same space. With the right focus, the work becomes increasingly legible: faces, patterns, and relationships come forward, as though the image is slowly sharpening around what is actually at stake. When that focus loosens, the image breaks apart into a vibrating mass, an optical unrest, as if a house were trembling on its foundations.

That shift makes cognitive flexibility tangible. Instead of one frame determining everything, several possible frames appear side by side. Perception reveals itself as position-dependent: a slight change in attention or context alters the reading of the same situation. Confusion becomes a sign that more is present than the first interpretation allowed. The moment in which everything feels briefly unstable and doubled also becomes the moment in which one can choose again how to look, which part to bring forward, and which line to follow.

  • Each drawing is framed in black and grey, a restrained palette that sharpens attention through contrast alone. The tonal shift between dark and muted surfaces creates a quiet instability, as if the frame itself were moving between presence and recession, clarity and blur. What appears fixed begins to feel contingent, dependent on angle, light, and focus. In that way, the frames echo Luminous Parallax: a structure in which perception shifts by degrees, and meaning changes with the position from which it is seen.
